If the standard deviation is larger, the dispersion would be higher. Let say that both of the population having a mean age 50. Population A has standard deviation 10. Population B has larger standard deviation which was 20. That mean population A age distribution is about 40-60(20 difference) but population B age distribution is 30-70(40 difference).
