Theodora was originally from Paflagonia, and a descendant of the Armenian aristocracy. She was the wife of Teófilo, emperor Byzantine, and mother of Miguel III, exercised the regency of this last one, because it counted on only three years of age when it was named emperor. Unlike her husband, she was iconodula, and had a synod gathered in the year 843 that restored the image cult, for which she is venerated as a saint of the Orthodox Church; his party is celebrated on February 11.

She spent her last 8 years in a convent of Santa Eufrosinia and after her death was beatified by the Orthodox Church. He died about 867. His relics were transferred in 1460 to Kérkyra on the island of Corfu.
