oldtime=1.2min
beat=1.200-1.034
beat=0.200-0.034
beat=0.100+0.100-0.034
beat=0.100+0.66
beat=0.166
he beat his previous time by 0.166 seconds

subtract the 2 times from each other:
1.2-1.034 = 0.166
he beat it by 0.166 seconds
