A class is trying to the time it takes for people to react. One student holds a meter stick between the fingers of another student. The student holding the meter stick releases and the other student is told to close their fingers as soon as they see the meter stick closed. The distance the meter stick falls before being caught is measured and a time of reaction is calculated. Since, there will be some difference between the reaction times of students, the average of all the results is found. Clearly, a natural variation is impossible to eliminate. However, some steps can be taken to improve the reliability of the results. Which of these might reduce the variability of the data? a.Have each student do multiple trials. b.Time the reaction as opposed to measuring the distance and calculating a time. c.Ensure that the finger separation is constant. d.Ensure that everyone drops the meter stick from the same height. e.Average all distances before calculating a reaction time. f.Measure the distance to the same precision for every student.

The correct option is A.
Multiple trial of an experiment normally improve the reliability of the experiment. Repeating an experiment several time using the same procedure usually increase the accuracy of the data obtained. The average of these data can then be calculated to obtain as near accurate result as possible.
