How might a hurricane in Florida cause anomalous nest data

I assume here, that the nests are bird's nests and the data is a data collected by biologists about those nests.

A hurricane would cause some damage to the nests that exists and cause an unusually low count even during breeding season. It would also impact later birds because of population decline due to the hurricane.
