Jay's Treaty is a treaty which wanted to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries that have been left unresolved since American independence. But it was opposed by Democratic-Republicans, who dreaded that closer economic ties with Britain would make the Federalist Party stronger, endorse commercial interests at the expenditure of yeoman agriculture, and destabilize republicanism by tying the United States' interests to the British monarchy.
