Objects in a solid stay in a a fixed position and have no freedom to move. The particles of the solid (the atoms or molecules) are attracted to each other. The atoms vibrate and the electrons fly around in their orbitals, but the entire atom does not change its position. This is the reason why solids hold their shape and don't flow.
