of the 30 girls who tried out lacrosse team at Euclid Middle school, 12 were selected. Of the boys who tried out, 16 were selected. Are the ratios of the number of students on the team to the number of students trying out the same for both boys and girls? How do you know?

Ratio of the number of students on the team to the number of students trying out for girls is given by

(12)/(30) = (2)/(5)

Ratio of the number of students on the team to the number of students trying out for boys is given by

(16)/(40) = (2)/(5)

Since both ratios, simplify to
(2)/(5), thus the ratios of the number of students on the team to the number of students trying out is the same for both boys and girls.
