each year, the american chemical society holds a national meeting and many regional meetings for chemists. reports of these meetings are then circulated all over the world. why do you think this has become standard practice?

It is likely that the main reason for these conferences and meetings to be held is to enable scientists from different parts of the world to come together and discuss their research and findings. Moreover, it is likely that these scientists want the opportunity to debate. Proper, constructive debate is very important for the development of science. This is the main way in which scientists can collaborate, as well as challenge each other's findings.
