How did geographic conditions limit contact between Africans and people from outside of the Middle East

Africa is separated from other continents by water, not to mention Africa had lots of deserts which meant its people didn't really travel much; however, Africa is attached to Asia by a very small part and it's only miles away from the Arabian peninsula separated by the Red Sea, and that's why they had lots of contact with people of the Middle East.
