A model of an atom is important in the understanding of the properties of all the objects around us. We can identify whether a specific material is iron or gold or anything else. Due to the model of an atom we can characterize each element. Elements in the same group would show similar chemical and physical properties present. This is because those elements have similar electronic configuration and we know this due to the atomic model. Also, it helps us to have an idea on how to synthesize certain substances so we can just produce them rather than obtaining it from natural means. With a better understanding of an atom, we can better understand chemical principles.
