From the given figure, to area of the shaded portion can be calculated through subtraction of Triangle 1 to Triangle 2.

The area of triangle 1 = ½×base×height.

base = 9cm

height = 5+5+2.5= 12.5

Area = ½× 12.5 × 9

= 6.25×9

= 56.25cm²

The area of triangle 2=

base = 9cm

height = 11.25

Area = ½× 11.25×9

= 101.25/2 = 50.625

The area of the shaded portion;

= 56.25-50.625

= 5.63cm²
