Achievement of integrity can be construed as "a gift of courage and caring for the generations that follow" because when you develop integrity, it leads you to the virtue of wisdom. Wisdom helps you look at your life with a sense of completeness and closure, making you accept death without fear.

The psychosocial crisis, Ego Integrity versus Despair, is the last stage of Psychosocial Development of Erik Erikson. This is the stage where we tend to think about our lives and accomplishments as a senior citizen or as a retired person. If we see ourselves successful, we develop integrity. But if we feel we haven't done much, we develop despair and become dissatisfied which can lead to depression and hopelessness.
