2 feet 9 inches + 1 foot 6 inches = 3 feet 15 inches

15 inches = 1 foot 3 inches

3 feet + 1 foot = 4 feet

2 ft 9 inches + 1 ft 6 inches = 4 ft 3 inches

1 yard = 3 feet

4feet 3 inches = 1 yard, 1 foot 3 inches

140+170 = 310 yards

310 + 1 = 311

so it traveled 311 yards 1 foot and 3 inches
