A metaphor is a comparison of two things that does not make use of comparison words such as "like". Moreover, an extended metaphor occurs when the metaphor is not only present in one sentence, but it expands throughout the whole poem or "over the course of a poem", and it is present in almost all of the stanzas. Therefore, the correct answer is "an extended metaphor".
