“I hail from Crete's broad land, I'm proud to say, and I am a rich man's son. And many other sons he brought up in this palace, born in wedlock, sprung of his lawful wife. Unlike my mother. She was a slave, a concubine he'd purchased, yes, but he treated me on par with all his true-born sons – Castor, Hylax's son…” Who is the speaker of this passage? Eumaeus Telemachus Odysseus Melanthius

The answer is Odysseus. Upon his return, he had disguised himself as an old man. He had said these lines to Eumaeus when he was begging for food. Eumaeus is one of his trusted men. Because of this disguise, he was able to reclaim his throne from the suitors of his wife.
