slope = (-5 - (-3) / (3 - 1) = (-5 + 3) / 2 = -2/2 = -1 <==

Slope=velocity=m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1), in this case
m=(-5--3)/(3-1)
m=-2/2
m=-1
