(2x)/7 = 12/14
cross multiply
(2x)(14) = (7)(12)
28x = 84
x = 84/28
x = 3
3 / (x - 1) = 5/7
cross multiply
5(x-1) = (7)(3)
5x - 5 = 21
5x = 21 + 5
5x = 26
x = 26/5 or 5.2
