Susan B. Anthony quotes from the Declaration of Independence as evidence from respected sources. She hoped that it would somehow adds strength to her argument and allow her to explain why voting is every woman's right. She said that she merely wanted to exerce her right as a citizen and mentioned how the declaration talked about the people as "We, the people", not "We, the men".
