The body takes longer to completely metabolize marijuana than many other drugs because marijuana contains the chemical compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC that would cause hallucinations and other relate compounds. It can stay longer in the body because it has no enxyme that would digest it rapidly. It usually takes weeks to a person to get the marijuana out of their system.
