In an effort to stabilize the Cuban economic and social unrest, Castro created a one-party government to exercise dictatorial control over all aspects of Cuba's economic, political and cultural life. Every political dissent were suppressed ruthlessly. At the same time, he expanded the country's social services, extending them to all classes of society on an equal basis.
