The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644. The Chinese economy was considered to be the largest in the world during that period. Although trade greatly increased throughout this period, there was a restriction of it during the early ages of the dynasty. This was due to the spell of the Mongols after their invasion. The Hongwu Emperor believed agriculture was the basis of the economy and favored it above trade.
