The flow of genetic information follows the "Central Dogma" of molecular biology: DNA is copied as messenger RNA (mRNA) which in turn is the template for protein synthesis (uses rRNA and tRNA). Genes (DNA) specify the amino acid or nucleotide sequences of functional cellular proteins and RNAs.
