Mendel’s discoveries are important because they show how traits and characteristics are passed down from parent to offspring. His research revealed that traits are controlled by factors that parents pass down to their offspring. Mendel discovered the basic principles of heredity with pea plants, way before the discovery of DNA and genes.

hope this helps :)

Mendel basically contributed to three very important basic laws in genetics that help us know when a trait is inherited from parents and the chances of their children inheriting that trait.
