Which side (north or south) paid a higher price for war?

Assuming you meant America's Civil War:

The south paid a higher price
-a lot of their farmland was destroyed
-they lost their slaves
-most southerners were disenfranchised (lost their right to vote)
-they were under martial law until reconstruction ended in 1877
-when they did set up their own government, only people who didn't fight in the war could hold public office
