A construction worker has a cable that is 8 yards long. He wants to cut it into 9 equal-length pieces. How long will each piece of cable be? A. 17 yd B. 8/9yd C. 1/8yd D. 9/8yd

At first, I knew the answer would be 1 1/8.
But that is not an option. Therefore the answer is D.
For it cannot be A for that doesn't really make any sense. It cannot be B for it says the cable is 8 yards long and he wants to cut it into 9 equal pieces. So that would mean that that 8 would be the denominator not the numerator. So B is out. C is confusing, for we were not subtracting and if we were it would be -1/8 not 1/8. So what is left is D.
