Karen wants to buy jeans at a store that is giving $10 off everything. The tag on the jeans is marked 50% off. The original price is $49.98

Here are the steps to the problem
Equation is y=49.98-10 times 50% or .5
When the y is equal to the final price
the price is
$19.99

Ok, so the first thing we need to do is subtract 50% of 49.98.  We know 50% of 49.98 is 24.99, so lets subtract.  49.98 - 24.99 = 24.99.  Then we need to take another $10 off the price.  That leaves the final price to be $14.99
