A cylinder and a cone have the same diameter: 8 inches. The height of the cylinder is 5 inches. The height of the cone is 15 inches. Use π = 3.14. What is the relationship between the volume of this cylinder and this cone? Explain your answer by determining the volume of each and comparing them. Show all your work.

Answer:

The volume of the cylinder is 251.2 inches. You would do pi (3.14) times r^2 (4^2=16) times h (5). 3.14 times 16 times 5 = 251.2.

The volume of the cone is 251.2 inches. You would do pi (3.14) times r^2 (4^2=16) times h/3 (15/3=5). 3.14 times 16 times 5 = 251.2.

First find the volume of the cylinder v = pi* r^2 * h
Then find the volume of the cone V = 1/3 * pi* r^2 * h

Then compare your two numbers.
