Both carbon dioxide molecules and water molecules have polar bonds. Why then is carbon dioxide a nonpolar molecule while water is a polar molecule?

It is because nonpolar molecules are molecules that share equal amounts of electrons while the water molecule has a net dipole opposite charges. This means that non polar molecules and polar molecules can combine with one another. Ex: H2O I hope this helped ^^
