What role did the electoral college play in George Washington's election to the presidency

He was more appointed. The people wanted him to be president he was actually hesitant at first but there was no electoral college when he was president.

George Washington wasn't elected president. he was the first so, I'm pretty sure,  he was more like appointed to the position
