A boy fell into the campfire. He has a deep burn, and the skin is charred.

What is the risk of what happened, and what is the first step to take?

a risk can be tissue damage to the affected area. it is important to run water over the burn, but not uncomfortably cold water. if it is a severe burn it is important to go to the hospital to have it treated. also, remove clothing and jewelry but do not peel back clothing that is stuck to the wound.
