David will rent a car for the weekend. He can choose one of two plans. The first plan has an initial fee of

$36
and costs an additional
$0.13
per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of
$49
and costs an additional
$0.08

per mile driven. For what amount of driving do the two plans cost the same?

miles?

What is the cost when the two plans cost the same

x - amount of driving
First plan cost:

36+0.13x

Second plan cost:

49+0.08x

36+0.13x=49+0.08x

0.13x-0.08x=49-36

0.05x=13

x=(13)/(0.05)=260
The two plans cost the same for 260 miles of driving.

36+0.13\cdot 260=69.8
The cost for such amount of driving is $69.80.
