Is it appropriate for students to read books where children are forced to act as adults due to circumstances in which they find themselves?

I don't think it is appropriate because if children are not allowed by there parents it means that the parents think its not things there children would read like if they think is non-fiction

I should think so, it teaches about the difficulties others have to face. It does teach them to be thankful for what they have as well. Often, characters like the ones you described showcase independence and perseverance.
