Why would the capture of a French forts of supplies be an advantage

This is a pretty simple question. It depends on what state that the army that captured the fort is in. If the army is struggling, low on supplies, or could just be in need of supplies! Like I was implying there are many ways this question can be answered...

They majority of the Frenchs trading was fur. As they would be an advantage of an item that has major value.
