What caused the downfall of the Songhai Empire?

The military leader Sunni Ali Ber became the first ruler of the empire who ordered for large territorial expansions. That caused a civil war in 1591, which sparked the way for the Moroccan invasion led by Sultan Ahmad I al-Mansur Saadi. That over time led to the collapse of the Songhai Empire.
