over a hundred years ago the German scientist Alfred Wegener (1880-1930), a polar researcher, geophysicist and meteorologist, suggested the concept of an ancient continent, or super-continent, which he named 'Pangaea' (sometimes written as 'Pangea'). Wegener did this after putting together several lines of evidence.
