During the Progressive Era, President Franklin Roosevelt sought to implement New Deal policies - a set of measures aimed at boosting the US economy after the Great Depression.
In the meantime, the Supreme Court was predominantly conservative, in order to impose a series of defeats to the president by barring the measures, justifying that the programs violated clauses of the Constitution.
However, Roosevelt had political strength and was able to reverse the position of some ministers in order to contemplate the New Deal.
