They are the same thing and the Charophyceans or Charophyta (Coleochaete, Chara, Nitella) are the most representative group of immediate land plant ancestors. Hope If you Are Satisfied with Answer, Please Close this Question !!

The difference between Charophyta and Chlorophyta is that Charophyta forms a paraphyletic group. Charophyta are the division of green algae (freshwater).
