Apopstosis is also known as programmed death. It is the process by which the cell kill off defective cells so that they will not become cancerous and lead to cancer.

Apoptosis is the controlled death of cells as a part of an organism's growth. A problem in the cell cycle may worsen and become a malignant tumor, as is the case in cancer. Therefore, apoptosis is helpful in preventing such a situation where the cell's division may become uncontrollable.
