How does the structure of a rhizoid help it to absorb water and minerals?

A rhizoid is a vital part of non-vascular plants. Since these types of plants don't have vascular systems that transport water, the rhizoid is structured like roots that extend upward to conduct water to the different parts of the plant and to anchor the plant to the ground.
