The moon is large and is close enough that it is able to reduce the amount of variance in Earth's tilt. Long-term evolutionary theory requires that organisms have a healthy environment to survive for prolonged periods of time, with normal seasons and gradual large-scale tweaks. By keeping our planet's tilt stable, the Moon allowed the Earth to keep those conditions.
