Very much like the Supreme Court case of Gideon v. Wainwright (1963), the case of Escobedo v. Illinois (1964) involved

It is basically that indigent( poor) criminal defendants have the right to be provided counsel at trial. And that when a police investigation begins to focus on a particular suspect who's been refused counsel, his statements to the police are excluded in trial.
