Why was Paul Revere making his ride?

Paul revere was riding, at the time it occurred on the night of April 18/April 19, 1775. He was riding from Boston to Lexington to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the movements of the British Army. Hope this helped if you need more explanation I'd be glad to help
