With respect to the North American situation in the 1760s, one reason for George Grenville's failure as a prime minister could be the fact that he was a Catholic and that went against him since the colonies were largely Protestant.

He was a British Whig statesman who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain. His policy of taxing the American colonies, kicked off by his Sugar Act of 1764 and the Stamp Act of 1765, gave way to the train of events which caused the American Revolution.
