A taxi charges $2.50 for up to and including the
first mile, and $1.20 for each mile thereafter.
What would the taxi charge for a trip of 12
miles?

Step-by-step explanation:

In this problem, we can call the $2.50 a fee, as we cannot go farther than a mile without paying this amount.

Now, since the first mile that we drive is worth more than the miles afterward, we can count only the following 11 miles that would cost $1.20. 11 x 1.20 = $13.20.

But remember! We need to add $2.50 for the first mile that we drove. 13.20 + 2.50.

The taxi driver would charge $15.70
