wind would pick up sediment making it fall on top of each other creating sand dunes.

Answer:

Wind is an erosive agent. In the deserts its effect is great because it moves the sand particles constantly forming dunes. The dunes are small mountains whose shape depends on the wind direction.

When the wind blows in one direction the dunes are in the shape of a half moon. When it blows in several directions it has a star shape.
