The three types of unsaturated hydrocarbons are alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Alkenes contain at least one double bond, alkynes contain at least one triple bond, and aromatic hydrocarbons contain one or more benzene rings.

Sources of alkenes include margarine and rubber; a source of alkyne is acetylene fuel in welding torches; and sources of aromatic hydrocarbons are polystyrene and aspirin.
