4x + 6y = 52...equ(1)

1 + x = y

y - x = 1...equ(2)

multiplying equation 2 by 4

4y - 4x = 4

adding equation 1 and 2

10y = 56

∴y = 5.6 dollars

substituting the value of y into equation 2

5.6 - x = 1

∴x = 4.6 dollars
