The continental congress made the federal government weak because it created a limited central government, (a limited central government is a political system with too much power) was just one branch, and Congress could not control tax or trade so they had to ask the states. The president, continental congress, and the federal government should have equal power and need to have the same agreement or sometimes they have disagreements. I hope that helped.
