How did they improve medicine after the civil war?

1. "instituted mandatory training in public health, hygiene and surgery for all Union Army medical officers" (trained doctors after the war)
2. The most common surgeries that were during the war was amputation.
3.While amputation became more common, a growing population of people in need of prosthetic.
4. Field Hospitals were set up in buildings (doctors needed more space to house patients.)
